Sweet Dreams Sago - Guilt Free Dessert for Sleep and Skin
Share
Peach Gum is a natural resin from peach trees, treasured in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its beautifying and nourishing properties. When soaked and cooked, it transforms into a jelly-like texture that’s perfect for desserts and sweet soups.
Rich in collagen-like compounds, peach gum is believed to support skin elasticity, hydration, and overall wellness, making it a popular ingredient in modern wellness desserts. Its subtle, neutral flavour allows it to pair beautifully with ingredients like White Lotus Seed and Longhair Lilybulb - both widely known for its sleep improving properties. Combining this with sago, rock sugar, and Goji Berries creates a guilt-free dessert that’s both comforting and rejuvenating.
Ingredients:
- Water
- Rock sugar or other choice of sweetener (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup coconut milk for sago pudding + extra for a drizzle
- Optional seasonal fruit for topping (like mango or pineapple)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Peach Gum and herbs:
• Remove the Peach Gum, Lilybulb and White Lotus Seed from the pack. Give it a quick rinse and then soak it in 1L of water overnight until the Peach Gum feels soft and jelly-like. Remove any impurities and drain.
2. Cook the Sago (next day):
• In a pot, place the sago with 1/4 cup of coconut milk. Optional to soak for 30min - this usually helps the sago to absorb coconut flavours and cook more evenly.
• Add another 1/4 cups of water and bring the sago mixture to a boil. Lower the heat to medium and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sago turns translucent. Be careful not to burn the sago. If required add water or coconut milk.
• Portion coconut sago into 2 serving glasses or containers. Set aside in the fridge to cool.
3. Cook the Peach Gum, White Lotus Seeds and Lily Bulb:
• In a pot, bring 1L of water to a boil. Add the drained herbs from step one. Simmer for 20 minutes until the lily bulb or lotus seed is fork tender or preferred jelliness of the Peach Gum. Add 1 tsp rock sugar or choice of sweetener and cook until dissolved. Add Goji Berries at the end and turn off heat.
4. Combine Everything:
• Take out the sago pudding from the fridge and add the herbal topping to each serving.
5. Serve & Enjoy:
• For extra creaminess, stir in coconut milk before serving.
• Enjoy warm for a comforting dessert or chill in the fridge for another 30 min to 1 hour a refreshing summer treat!
• Optional to add seasonal fruits to the sago pudding.
Let each spoonful nourish your body and calm your mind. Sweet dreams!
